Recently when I've been trying to restore information from a 3 1/2 inch
floppy my computer will reboot. Any suggestions on why this is happening?

Restore meaning what, exactly?
Are you just trying to copy files from the floppy to your hard drive? Are
you sure it's a good floppy (as in, does this happen with all floppies, and
does it happen with *this* floppy on any other computer)?

Bad floppy drive?

Or possibly your computer is SO underpowered that the mere act of
running the drive sends it over the edge.

I am usually trying to restore a backup into a program on my computer. I
took the floppy to a different computer and it restored with out any problems.

Do other floppies work on this one? You see where I'm going here, I'm sure.

You might simply try getting another floppy drive - even a USB-attached
external one.

I tried a usb external floppy drive, went to restore the backup again with
the external drive computer rebooted. I am at a loss now. Is there any hope
in fixing this?

Can you copy the contents of this floppy disk to your hard drive? On your
computer? On *any* computer? If so, try your restore operation from there,
rather than accessing the floppy directly.

Now there is another computer in the office that this is happening to. She
had a multiple disk quickbooks backup she was trying to restore to her
computer. Rebooted computer after second disk and then on another try
rebooted after third. We took the backup and restored it to another computer
with no problems. Is this possibly some sort of bug or virus and if so my
antivirus isn't picking it up and how do I fix it otherwise?

Hard to say. I so rarely use floppies for anything like this, I'm not sure
what to tell you - other than, try not using floppies!
