Yes, the new drive had windows preinstalled. The local
tech put the drive in place and rebooted the machine. It
then took a while (maybe 30 min or so) for the machine to
be available.

I puchased a new drive over the web that was identical to
the original one that failed and to the new one supplied
by Dell and installed by the local tech. The only thing
the new drive I puchased does is consume power and
disipate heat. It was listed as an OEM item and came with
nothing but the drive. Luckily the PCI RAID card I
purchased at the same time came with two serial cables
which allowed me to do a lot of swapping and testing. As
I noted before, even the original faild drive had enough
functionality that I was able to run it along with the
new Dell supplied drive and recover some data.

Yes, drive 1 is working well. Even the RAID card
