I have need to occasionally run two old DOS based programs that are used on
different sites. I had these installed on my home machine starting with
W3.11 and moving right on up. However after upgrading to WXPro I can no
longer run these two programs.
The ProWrite program only has a PW.com which XP gives me the error
screen that it will look for a program to run this extension. The ProFile
program will run only if I go into the directory and double click on the
PF.exe. I cannot create a shortcut to it as when I do and click on it in
will not run. Neither program has an install or setup command, and both are
installed in folders on my hard drive.

Hi Bill,

When dealing with a DOS prog, it could work using compatibility mode:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=292533 or by using the Multiboot
bootdisk from: http://members.ozemail.com.au/~lpcd/downloads.html

With DOSBOX you can emulate a DOS computer on your XP desktop:
http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/information.php Or try MS Virtual PC:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/v...oads/trial.asp
which allows you to install DOS or to run any operating system inside XP.

I realise these are workarounds, and not exactly what you're requesting,
however if you search on "pif" in Help and Support you'll find more ideas.
