I'm using WinXP. When I move a folder, and maybe when I do other
thinks in Windows Explorer, the screen goes black for a second,
there's a noise in the CPU (maybe a disk drive?), the small icons on
the task bar disappear, the task bar disappears, then one by one, the
screen returns, the taskbar shows up, and the task bar icons fall into
place.

I checked for errors (eventvwr.msc), as suggested by one poster,
and found a whole bunch. I don't know what they mean. I don't know
how to fix them.

I would really appreciate some help.

It may be your hard drive going bad.Try going to your
hard drive manufactures web site and see if they have a
on line diagnostic test to run. I also would think about
backing up your files in the event it could be bad. Also
make sure all your case fans are in working order, it
could be a heat problem also...Good luck.

I've been using the computer a lot lately -- leaving it running for
more than 24 hours at times. Should I give it a rest?
