I added a "Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 EIDE 160GB ATA-133" HD that is wired
in as "Slave". I see it when I look at the BIOS boot options on startup,
but I don't see it nominated with the other devices in "My Computer".

Am I supposed to amend something somewhere so that it appears there?

Happy trails,

Go to Start...Run...and type in "diskmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press
Enter.

Scroll down the devices and see if the hard drive is listed there. Most
commonly this is caused because the drive isn't setup. You can generally set
it up from there.

If this is a drive that's been used be careful using it if it's not
recognized - you may want to recover data from it and each use increases the
chance that your data will be overwritten.

Hi rooster,

Have you created one or more partitions on the second hdd? If not, then that
is why it is not showing up in My Computer.....the hdd does not obtain drive
letter designations until it has been partitioned.

Patti & usama;

Ta.

The HD is still a virgin; no partitions, no data, no programs. I haven't
decided whether to install/upgrade to XP-Pro, or Vista. I'm just getting
prepared.

Thanks for the edu.

Happy trails,

rooster
