I want install second hard drive, but not sure what type of hardrive will
better suit:

Motherboard is ASRock P4i45GV
In specification noted:
IDE:
IDE1: ATA100 /Ultra DMA Mode 5
IDE2: ATA100 /Ultra DMA Mode 5
support up to 4 IDE devices

Current Hdd is Maxtor 6Y080L0 80GB - IDE drive. Should I install second
drive also IDE type, for better compatibility and performance?

An IDE drive is the only type your motherboard supports so without buying a
SATA card you don't have any other choice. BTW I wouldn't waste the money
on an additional card, just stick with IDE.

Yes, two devices on each IDE bus.

I don't see much choice. You have two IDE controllers and no SATA
controller. So get a second IDE drive. I assume that there's an
optical (CD and/or DVD drive) on the second IDE controller. In that
case I'd put the second hard drive as a slave drive on the first
controller, making the current hard drive the master on that
controller.

well, just to clarify this: so the 2nd Hdd is slave on 1st IDE controller
(and 1st Hdd is Master there), and on 2nd IDE controller the CD/DVD is
Master and floppy is slave?

By the way, which HDD model is better: Seagate ST3160815A or ST3160812A ?

http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.js...&locale=en-US#
http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.js...D&locale=en-US

I find only few differences - in size/weigh:

ST3160812A
Height (max) 26.11 mm
Weight (typical) 580 grams
ST3160815A
Height (max) 19.99 mm
Weight (typical) 380 grams

Plus, ST3160815A uses "perpendicular recording technology for maximum drive
capacity and reliability". Not sure what this mean, but which model is more
reliable?

thanks

The floppy is usually on its own controller. It is a separate cable.

Floppies are not IDE devices. Your floppy drive will be on its on
controller.

What boot order in BIOS is recommended for such configuration?

which from HHD is more reliable, normal ST3160812A or thin ST3160815A (which
uses 'perpendicular recording technology for maximum drive
capacity and reliability'. More density - less reliability, in general?

Actually both types have been used internally. FDC and IDE
