2nd Hard Drive shows no data

I recently added a new hard drive which I intend to run
my OS on and use my old drive simply for MY DOCUMENTS.

I formatted the new drive and installed Windows Xp fine.
When I add my old drive as the slave it comes up as an
unformatted drive in MY DOCUMENTS and asks to format when
I select the drive letter. I do not want to format as I
have tones of data on this disk I need.

Can anyone tell me how to axcess the data. The
properties tab says the device is working fine. But it
Windows is not picking up that this drive is already
formatted.
