2nd hard drive ques 2

hey all,
i just installed a 2nd hard drive in my pc and was wondering if i set the
jumper pin to cable select, what does that mean?

will that affect a dual boot attempt?

It means you better have the primary drive set to cable select also.

Each IDE connector can have two devices attached to it. One if the
master, and the other the slave. Jumpers on the devices determine which
is seen as which. If you have two drives on the same IDE channel, and
both are set as master or slave, the PC will only see one of them.

On older machines and drives, you had to explicitly jumper one device to
be master and the other to be slave. One newer machines and drives, you
can set them to Cable Select, and let the machine make the assignments.

If you use Cable Select, *both* drives must be set that way.

Depends on what you are doing. If you are installing the second OS on
the second drive, both drives better be visible to the PC, which means
you'll need to make sure the jumpering is correct.

The drive position on the cable is what determines the Master/Slave
configuration, hence the name cable select. The drive at the end of the
cable connected to the black connector will be Master, the one connected to
the middle or gray connector will be the Slave.
