I am trying to do a 2k pro fresh install but after it
starts copying files. It eventually tells me that a file
is corrupted or missing. It is a different file every time
the latest was uhcd.sys corrupted. I was running 2kpro
yesterday but tried to upgrade to 2k server and now I cant
even get pro back.

There is no supported upgrade path from any version of workstation to any
version of server.

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

You didn't mention the drive controller (possibly SCSI, or ultra DMA, or
ATA100, or raid, or serial ATA), but you may need to boot the Windows 2000
setup disks or CD-Rom and *F6* very early and very important (at setup is
inspecting your system) in the setup to prevent drive controller detection,
and select S to specify additional drivers. Then later you'll be prompted to
insert the manufacturer supplied Windows 2000 driver for your drive's
controller in drive "A"

If you wait and then S to specify additional drivers, then it may be too
late as Windows 2000 Setup at this point may have already assigned the
resources your drive's controller is wanting to use.

I tried disabling the memory settings but no change.I
still get the blue screen at the same point but this is as
far as I have gotten yet. Please help with any

Absolutely if the bios version is not know to be Windows 2000 compatible.
Also try removing one and or swapping around the mem sticks.

I have a similar problem, but I have been running win2k for about 1
troublefree months. Three days ago it suddenly crashed, bluescreen an
wouldnt boot up. I have tried reinstalling. Win2k setup has told m
three times that the disk is damaged or corrupt, but I have tested th
Fujitsu 40 gig drive with a fujistsu test program which confirms it i
helathy. The isnatlltion can go as far as allowing me to select th
country for the keyboard and time zone, but later STOP messag
refferring to either cdaudio.sys damaged or driver not loaded, o
ntsokrn, or various other files. Once it got a longway into copyin
the files over but couldnt find vcmd. even though I could browse to i
and point setup to it it wouldnt copy it over. I eventually formatte
the drive, NTFS, and then tried to installl, same problem. I hav
partitioned the drive 5GB and 35 GB, it wont install on eithe
partition. I am running out of ideas. At the moment I am trying t
install win98 just to see if I cna get soemthing working. I am not

If you can boot the CD-Rom then you don't need to setup disks. Be sure to
delete the partition and restart setup. You didn't mention the drive
controller (possibly SCSI, or ultra DMA, or ATA100, or raid, or serial ATA),

I still have no idea what you mean, but I seem to have solved m
problem. Even though the memory test at boot up says the memory is ok
I removed one of the memory sticks , and hey presto Win2k installs wit
no problem. I swapped the sticks over and guess what it wouldnt loa
win2k. Swqap them back and it loads up. Discovered this all too lat
of course to save any project files, and my 120 gb backup drive ha
somehow been reformatted (I tried to install win98 unsuccessfully an
it appears to have reformatted the drive to fat32 deleting everythin
on it)

So my solution to all you people having problems installing WIN2K
check your Ram memory sticks
