I recently purchased a DV9088EA which came with Media Center.

Needing XP Pro for work use to be able to connect to a domain I uninstalled
media center and eventually managed to get XP Pro on and re-installed all
given drivers and all drivers from the HP drivers site for this laptop model.

Noticed that it seems to be running quite slow then realised that in the my
computer properties i have:

Computer:
Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 CPU
T5600 @ 1.83 GHz
987 MHz, 256MB of RAM
Physical Address Extension

Obviously, firstly it should have 2GB of RAM and should it not recognise
that this is the Intel Core 2 Duo?

Anyone got any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks in advance

Regards
Dave.

My guess is that the report of 256MB is correct, and that you don't have the
2GB you think you do.

A search shows that 2GB is the standard amount for that model.

That machine does indeed come standard with 2 GB of DDR2 RAM and a Intel
T5600 processor (running at 1.83 GHz). Could you recheck the specs again
using Control Panel > System? If it still reflects your RAM as 256 MB I
would get in touch with HP.

You might also want to check things out with Belarc...

It does come with 2GB of RAM and said so when I had media center installed.
Have run an online system check which confirms the 2048MB of ram.

Just dont know what to do!! Could get in touch with HP but depends how they
react to me removing the media center they provided and installing xp pro!

any suggestions?

and interestingly:

Processor a
1.85 gigahertz Intel Core 2 Duo
64 kilobyte primary memory cache
2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache

Memory Modules c,d
256 Megabytes Installed Memory
Slot 'DIMM 1' has 1024 MB
Slot 'DIMM 2' has 1024 MB

Whats does this mean??

It's reflecting that your system *does* have 2 GB of RAM. So you should be
OK. But check with HP anyway just to determine why there's that anomaly as
described in your original post.

Use Start - Run - MSCONFIG and go to the BOOT.INI tab.
Click on the Advanced Options button and make certain that the
checkbox for the /MAXMEM= line is clear and that there is no value in
the data box for that line. Click on Apply to implement any changes
you have made then reboot the computer and see what it now reports in
System Properties.

Good luck

Thanks for this Ron, however I do not seem to have a BOOT.INI tab!

I have a WIN.INI and a SYSTEM.INI tab but no BOOT.INI!

Is this correct?

Many thanks for your advice.

Regards
Dave.

What drive letter appears in Windows Explorer and in Disk Management
for your Windows ( System ) volume? It would normally be C but I
suspect your's may be something different!

Hope this helps.
