If I have 256MB RAM memory can I add a 512MB memory card? Or just another 256?

That actually depends on your motherboard, not Windows XP. Check the
documentation for your motherboard or for your computer and see what size
memory modules it supports and in what configuration.

Right now I havd 128MB DDR RAM PC2100 and I want to put in a 256MB DDR RAM PC2700 (http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...1912&CatId=155)

Is this possible

You are not to mix the different speeds of RAM. If you want to add PC2700
RAM to your system, you must remove the PC2100. However this does not that
you can not have different sizes for the RAM. You can put any mixture of
128, 256, 512, and 1G RAM into your system. They just have to be the same
speed rating.

So that means I can't use my new 8x video card? And I can only go upto PC2100?

No, it means that it can support PC1600 or faster, the mobo
FSB sets the speed, lower rated RAM will have errors when it
tries to run at higher than its rated (tested) speed.
You may be able to mix PC2100 and PC 2700, as long as they
are otherwise compatible.

You most often can use faster rated memory in a slower system, it just won't
be running at the 2700 rating. Waste of money also.
