"I have recently reinstalled windows afresh onto my C: drive. My D: drive
(for data) which I formatted just before the windows reinstall has a Hidden
folder called MSOCash. Under a series of sub folders are a big collection of
"Cabinet Files".

This second drive is partitioned, such that Drive D is supposed to be for
Data and Drive E for Recovery Files.

I am using Win XP.

What are they and why are there so many and taking up so much space? Can
they be deleted?

Thanks in advance (ps anyone having trouble with the search feature on this
forum always returning "not found"?)

MSOCash is your Office installation files. You can delete them but then when you install Updates or any fixes you will need your original install disks for it to install. If left alone then any Updates or fixes will call on this MSOCash file for the info it needs to install and Update.
I would leave it alone. It will be very helpful at times(many times)

Thanks guys. I downloaded the MS LIS software to enable me to move it to
a different drive.

And yes I did mean MSOCache. Money and tax is constantly on my mind, I am
afraid.

Thanks again.
