In my job as IT, I deal with various issues. One of them is a superior that
has 21k messages in their inbox - and they wonder why their machine does not
run good.

I need to show some data, info, anything else so that this party realizes
that archiving or even moving to another folder will greatly increase the
efficency of thier email program.

Help!

Perhaps you would care to give OL version and mode i.e. exchange or what?

Sure. I just moved him from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007 on a new Vista
machine. We're running POP3/SMTP from an outside source.

BTW - the PST move was a nightmare. Took nearly a day to do it.

How large is the PST, if you're using them? A folder can hold 64K items (at
least).

Not to get to far off topic, but what steps did you take to move the pst?
I'm doing something similar.

I've seen similar posts, regarding number of msgs;
Since you are probably dealing with a superior who probably defines his
importance by the number of msgs he has available, you are, if the previous
posts were anything to go by, fighting a losing battle.
I read somewhere recently about psychiatrists stating they were witnessing
people suffering from email 'problems'
Good luck

Why was the PST move a problem - that should only take a few minutes.
Unless you used Export & Import - *that* can get you into big troubles.

Large PST files perform best if they are on a separate partition (NTFS
with 64kb clusters), and fully defragmented. I don't see why users must
be made to archive or otherwise move their messages around. I keep all
my messages since 1996 in a single PST file (Inbox, Sent Items; about
40,000 msg), and I do not have any performance problems.

You could try spinning him the yarn about how the archive option is
there to move mail away from the Inbox in order to free up available
memory, and that in the same way as a computer, the more rubbish you
store, eventually you will start to have performance issues, that
coupled along with the fact that its on a new system with new software
and drivers, probably isn't helping much either. He may well have huge
attachments in his inbox as well, which won't help matters.

How large is his mailbox store?
