AOL has a spyware program that keeps finding 2020search. It's apparently a
BHO. No matter how many time I block it, it keeps coming back. My computer
seems to be working fine. The thing is -- up-to-date Ad-Aware, SpyBot,
SpywareBlaster, PestPatrol and CWShredder do not find 2020search. At what
point do I call the finding a false positive ... if it is?

It is NOT a false positive......did you not think of trying Google???? Have
a look at the following.....there are files to remove and/or a removal tool

http://www.2-spyware.com/parasite-2020search.html

http://www.spywareguide.com/product_show.php?id=640

Cheers......Heather

Was I so obscure or derelict to make the sarcasm necessary? Yes, I Googled
quite a bit, and I read several articles, though not precisely the ones you
posted. A problem was that PestPatrol clearly advertised that it picked up
2020search automatically, but seemingly it didn't in this case. So when I
saw that none of these programs that the AOL spyware finder found, found the
same thing, I manually checked:

* None of the ongoing processes in task manager were happening
* None of the suspect files listed in the article were present
* None of the suspect registry entries was present

It was for these reasons that I wondered whether or not it was a false
positive. I addressed this newsgroup for an alternative answer, and at this
point, I think shouldn't have bothered since all I have accomplished is
annoying folks.

Sounds like AOL is mis-identifying something as 2020search. You can't find
any processes or activities that should be associated with that piece of
malware, all you get is a message from AOL? Well, I've never trusted AOL
for much of anything, so a false positive does not amaze me.

Did AOL identify where it found 2020search?
