I am creating name tents for a large performance. I have mail merged my
participants names onto the tent cards, but can't do it on both sides. I
have over 660 attending so creating by hand is not an option. Any
suggestions on how to print to two sides of a name tent using mail merge?

Hi M.G.T.,

One method is to think 'sideways'

Layout each tent as a row in a two column table, sized to match the finished tent size you want to use, with the page orientation
set to portrait, and visualize the center line between the two cells as being the fold edge for your tent.

Insert your merge cell into each side of the tent (each cell) and then in the Table Tools Layou tab set Alignment of the text to
center in the cell and then in each cell select the field and use the 'Text Direction' button there to turn the left cell field to
point down and the right cell field to point up.

Add a 'next record' rule in the right hand cell to jump to the next name after each tent.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I had some success getting the orientation in
a table, but I am using the Avery 5302 tents with 4 tents per page. What
size table is needed to fill the entire page? I had to use landscape
orientation to line up with the Avery tents. Also, when I completed the
merge and go to print, the tent table is not in line with the template. Any
clues on how you get the proper spacing?

Hi Marc,

To create the template to use in Word 2007 you can use
Mailings=>Labels=>Options=>Label Vendor:Avery US Letter
and choose the 5302 style, click OK and click 'New Document.
This creates a table to use with the tent cards. (Page layout to be portrait).

If at this point you don't see the borders of the tent cards you can click somewhere in the page to be inside the table and use
Table Tools=>Layout=>Table=>View Gridlines
(or keyboard shortcut Alt, A, G)

Select the entire table (the 4 headed arrow icon at the top left) and use
Table Tools=>Layout=>Alignment=>Center

As the template doesn't divide the tents to show the fold line, with your cursor still in the first cell of the table use
Table Tools=>Layout=>Merge=>Split Cells
and select 2 columns/1 row

Place your cursor in the the 2nd tent and press F4, repeat again in tent 3 and 4, Save your model at this point.

You should be able to then use the previous method to insert your name field(s) in the first and second 'sides' of each tent (plus a
'next record' rule on the right side of each tent) and changing the 'text direction' choices.

Thanks for all your great input and feedback. I have successfully got the
info in and am ready to print the tents. I had modified the table to fit the
5302 template before getting your last response. Your last input sounds much
simpler and if I have any issues, I will certainly use your process. Right
now, it works and I don't have time to change it unless I have to. I never
would have got that far without your input.

Thanks again,

Marc
