I have completed a 500mb presentation (audio is heavy in kb's) that I cannot
get to open up in viewer 2007. I downloaded a new version of Viewer 2007 and
some office compatability pack, but so far, it still will not work. I need to
duplicate this ppt for distribution. what gives?

Save it as file type powerpoint show.

When reopening, it should open automatically in Viewer.

Need a little info.

How are you trying to open the file? Are you opening the Viewer (by
double-clicking the PPTView.EXE file) and then navigating to your
presentation?

Or are you saying that the autorun CD doesn't work?

If the latter, it's probably because the file is so large, it's taking a
long time to get going.

You might consider converting to MP3s and not embedding WAVs so the actual
file size is smaller. If you use Package for CD, the links to the MP3s will
be resolved, so it shouldn't be a problem. But the 1/2-Gig (which is what
500MB is) file size could definitely be a problem, especially if you're
expecting to run the file from CD. With a smaller PPT file size, the CD
should start up much more quickly.

I am trying to open the file first by inserting the cd, I guess that is
called auto run. All it does is appear to load for ten minutes or more. I
then open up the file and double click the PPTView file, it briefly shows the
ms viewer screen, then prompts me to open through the ppt file.

Did you create the CD using File | Package for CD?

If so, you might try choosing Package to Folder, then burn the contents of
the folder to the CD.

If it doesn't run then, it's almost certainly the large file size.

yes, I have saved by folder on a cd, and then on a hd storage. I thought it
might be the quality of cd I was using, but no dice. so the file is too big.
I could slice in half, and have part 1 and part 2 presentations, but that is
not really what I want. I could go through and re do the audio with a lesser
quality... I used a reasonably high quality as I wanted it to be clear. Or, I
could convert sound files to mp3 as you said, although I don't know how to do
that.

live with that. but now, on the slides, the audio narration comes in before
the text comes in.

What animation settings do you have specified? I mean, if you look in the
animation task pane -- maybe right-click an item in the animation pane and
opt to Show Advanced Timeline -- are the narrations set to come in before
the text? Can you adjust the delay a little? (Dragging the orange bar on the
timeline is the easiest way, I think.)

This is a weird thing to happen after dividing the presentation -- I
wouldn't expect it to.

I have used some bells and whistles available through PP2007; most are fairly
simple though, fading entries, etc. I have gone back and deleted all of the
fading entries of the first text box. Although I think that is a copout. I
don't understand why the program doesn't work correctly.

And now I have several other problems: first, I still cannot get even one
half of the presentation WITHOUT any audio to load on another computer. I
have decided that my original presentation audio (at CD quality) was too
heavy, so I am prepared to use a lighter audio setting.

Honestly, I didn't anticipate all these problems when I upgraded to PP2007.

Well, let's start with figuring out why half of it -- without audio -- won't
load on another computer.

How are you creating the CD?

When you use Package for CD with PPT 2007, it converts the file to 97-2003
format (PPT), which can make the file size bigger. How big is the PPT file
listed as in the package for CD folder?

Also, you want to package to folder, then burn the contents of the folder to
the CD. They should be "loose" on the CD, not inside a folder.
