2003 Outlook email inserts

Inserting a small file into an email locks up the insert address bar and
indicates "program not responding". With patience in 1 or 2 minutes it will
eventually unlock and I can select the insert. Attemping to select another
insert from another folder repeats the same lock up. Any suggestions? I
have been on the line with Dell service techs for over 8 hours trying to
resolve this problem. No one has an answer. Tom from Dell in Salt Lake
caused over 30 fatal errors and hung up on me.
