Hi Everybody

I still have plenty of databases written in Access 2000 although I
would like to write future databases in Access 2003.

Assuming I have both versions on the same machine, is it possible to
have the correct version of Access start according to whether the .mdb
file is written in 2000 or 2003?

Thanks in a advance.

Access2003 will open and work with A2000 databases perfectly well - in
fact it defaults to creating new databases in 2000 format.

If you wish, you can create Shortcuts which open one version or the
other as you choose; but no, Access will not detect which version
you're opening and then automagically call another instance of
msaccess.exe. You might be able to write a Visual Basic program to do
so but that would really be overkill!

Access 2003 works fine with Access 2000 databases (no conversion required:
Access 2000 format is actually the default file format for Access 2003), so
it's really a moot point.

Such a capability isn't built into Access, but there are 3rd party products
out there that will do this for you:

Access Opener http://www.openaccess.co.za/BlackAnd...cessOpener.htm
ACCVER http://www.aylott.com.au/software.htm
Total Access Startup http://www.fmsinc.com/products/startup

The last version you used will be the one that opens. But not to worry.
Access 2003 can easily work with a file in 2000 format. You don't have to
convert.

There are freeware utilities that you can use to set the version you want.
There is one at: http://www.aadconsulting.com/facc.html

I've never felt the need to use any of them. I have both installed and do
everything in 2003 except when I need to create a 2000 mde.
