i'm connected to a hi-speed network with a modem given to
me by my provider. last year i had windows ME on my comp
and things seemed to run pretty smooth. i only needed my
antivirus to kep unwanted things away. this year i'm using
windows 2000, and i'm having all sorts of pop-up issues,
trojans outta nowhere, and i have to use spybot and
adaware in addition to my antivirus. i'm thinking of
buying xp if i'll be able to avoid these problems.

i dont understand how it is i could have just a anti vir.
before and have no problems on an older version of
windows, and now have 3 programs to manage my problems yet
they still occur nevertheless every time i surf the net.

help please.

(if i posted in the wrong thread i'm sorry)

You'll want to put a firewall between you and the internet. Something like
this or equal.

Dave and dusan,

I've used ZoneAlarm's free (for private use) basic Firewall for over a year or so and it works very well. Easy to setup and updates are easy to install. You can find information here: http://www.zonelabs.com/store/conten...id=zadb_zadown

They say it's basic but I find it actually is quite robust. So far (knocking on wood), I haven't had any hits. Oh, a lot of attempts, especially on the cable modem connection in Zurich but in Fribourg, I get maybe two attempts per week. In Zurich, I get about 10 per minute! But never any hits.

Just a thought.
