Hello everyone,

I use Win XP Pro, Win 98 SE, Win ME, and Win95C all on one machine. I use
the program called bootmagic from powerquest (I believe symantec owns
powerquest now) to enable me to boot to either one of the OS's (operating
systems) I just mentioned. I recently bought a 200 GIG Maxtor hard drive
and transferred the data to this hard drive via partition magic 8. I know
Win XP Pro with the correct patch file applied off the Maxtor website will
be able to see the full 200 GIG Maxtor hard drive but I am wondering what
about the other OS's. Will they all see the full 200 gig Maxtor hard drive
as well? and will they all be able to access and save files to the full 200
gigs without data corruption? The motherboard that I own is a P6VAP-A+ from
ECS (www.ecsusa.com). Apparently the motherboard BIOS is only able to see
136 Gigs but with WinXP Pro and the patch I received from Maxtor's website,
WinXP Pro is able to see the full 200 GIG Drive. What is the limit for each
of the above OS in recognizing hard drive capacities? I would like to use
the Ghost 7.5 program from powerquest
in DOS mode but will DOS be able to see this 200 Gig hard drive? What is
DOS's limitation in seeing lard hard drives? If I partition the 200 gig
hard drive to the sizes that each OS can use (primary drives, max of three
for each physical disk), how large will I be able to create a
logical/extended drive (max of one extended drive with unlimited smaller
drives within the extended drive) that all the OS can see and use?

I don't think you will have any problems with 98, Me but Win95 not so
sure. Check here

You could try Partitioning large hard drives in google.

You should be using the Maxblast software to install, configure, partition, format and then 'clone' from your exisiting drives.

This should have come with the HDD if you bought a retail Maxtor HDD.

I am having the same problem, you might go to the
motherboard company and get the latest bios that might
help, you'll need to do a bios flash. Older motherboards
don't have the capability to see beyond the 130s.

First,

You need to format the hard drive with XP SP1, not just XP (original). SP1
put the "large drive" support in XP (> 137GB).

Windows 98 and ME may have problems with this drive (no support for these
larger drive. MS stopped supporting these)

Windows 95C may have problems booting if it is not installed within the
first 1024 cylinders of the hard drive (limiation to Windows 95).

Also, V-Com's System Commander is a much better bootmanager that Boot
Magic. It also works natively in NTFS.
