I have bought a new cartridge and a new drum for MFC4800 but still
have two white strips where ink doesn't go on paper. They are each
about 1/8 inch wide and are located on right side of print area.

Any clues????

Firstly does the problem occur only when copying or does it occur when printing
either from a PC or printing an internal report?
If it happens when printing an internal report it is likely to be dust or toner
on the laser scanner window.
Open the printer, remove the drum unit, look into the printer under where the
drum unit was and you will see a slot that runs across the printer with a glass
plate in it. Using a clean soft dry cloth, wipe the surface of the glass. Look
for anything sticky on the glass at the same position that you have the white
lines, if there is something there you can use a non-abrasive window cleaner to
remove it.
If it only happens when copying, there is a different cause. Please advise.

It occurs with faxes or internal printing.
I removed the drum unit. I can't see a slot or glass plate. I don't have
much of an angle. I'm going to hunt for a soft cloth to try and wipe in
that area even though I can't see it.
thanks so much!!!! I'll let you know.

I just wiped with soft cloth in that area and made no difference. I tried a
copy and
the white streaks are on it too. I felt with my fingers and don't really
feel a slot,..
or glass for that matter. Is there some way I can get to it better?

Jenny
There is a device at the front of the printer (under the drum unit) that has a
warning sticker on it (warning that it is hot), the laser scanner is just
behind that, there is a glass strip that goes across the printer from left to
right and it can be hard to see. Something on that glass is the most likely
cause of the problem. The top of the printer obscures the view of the glass but
trust me it's there!
The fact that the problem happens when copying and printing means that there
are only two possibilities, the glass in question or the fuser (the hot part)
and I am pretty sure that the fuser is not the issue here.

Hi Jenny,

I have been working on my Brother 1435 over the Christmas. It has the
same white strip problem. This printer is 3 years old with new toner.
I clean the window, drum, wire and the toner roller. It helps. The
white strip at the centre-right disappear. but there is no change to
the one at the left.
Finally I read a post about shaking with the toner up-side-down. I did
it and it works. All th white strips disappear.
Hope it help.

KC
