I am working on a machine with no cd drive and need to fit on & install
from floppy, 2 different kinds of programs, that I hoped someone could
recommend.

The first is an Uninstaller for programs that do not have their own, and
that dont appear in the windows Add/Remove list ?

The second is a 'WinDoctor" (Norton) kind of windows cleaner that finds and
repairs broken links, active-x, invalid shortcuts and so on

Gracias

Why do you need to install from a floppy? Your computer doesn't have a hard
drive?

Total Uninstall

BTW, don't trust the uninstall that comes with a program - many leave lots
of junk behind.

Well, Total Uninstall download is 792KB, then you can put it in a HD floppy.
Be aware, BTW, that TU works for your future installations, not the old one.

Thank you - this doesn't work for me now as I need to uninstall old
programs. But it's good to know about.

Heresy for this ng, but I'll suggest spending a lousy $8US for an
older CD-only version of Systemworks (which includes GoBack btw); copy
the Uninstall Wizard from Cleansweap & WinDoctor from the CD to
floppies or a zipdisk, and run it off of that.
I won't run my Win98SE systems without it!

Since those programs aren't listed in "Add/Remove" it is reasonably safe to
assume there was no install and that you can simply delete them. Before
doing so, look in the program's folder to see if there in an uninstall.exe
there.

They may or may not have written entries to the registry which would remain
(harmlessly). A registry cleaner should remove those.

Oh, yes. Been *there* a few times. I cannot comment on your original
question, but what I've found is:

Easiest way to transfer programs or files is to borrow a CD-ROM from
another machine and use that. Might run into a driver problem.

Second easiest is to use a parallel port laplink. (The serial port
laplink is "Number Ten". It's even slower than transfering a file
using just one floppy.)

Or, you could pull a hard drive with a compatible file format from
another machine and add it to the ISA ribbon (be sure to switch the
hard drive to "slave" if you put it on the same one the main hdd is on).

If the computer cannot accept another hard drive, you might pull the
one in it and stick it in another computer (be careful of file
systems). If it is a notebook, there are 2.5 inch to 3.5 inch adaptors
around for about 6 to 12 dollars US. These are really handy little
devices for someone messing with computers, and most computer repair
people probably have one laying around. It's part of what they use to
make money, so...

If you really have to use floppies, there are a number of freeware
file splitters availible to divide a file into floppy sized chunks.

I can't find the link, but I think it's called Shredder? You enter your
floppies maximum and it cuts the large program into several files that will
fit on individual floppies and generates a batch file (?) to stitch them all
together on the HD.
I just re-installed (Win98se) but I keep it on a floppy since I lost a CD
player last year and had to transfer files from a friends computer... one
floppy at a time. The biggest program was a bit over 3 Meg? Got it on 4
floppies if I recall correctly.
