Copy all *your* stuff off the computer - you should be doing this
periodically anyway (backups.)
Get an external drive (USB hard disk drive would be a good choice - and huge
sizes can be had for less thsan $100 - maybe 1TB - which is probably 10
times more than you have in total space on your computer in total) and
drag/drop what you want to keep to it. You can use the Files and Settings
Transfer Wizard, but truthfully that may be overkill.
In any case - once you have copied your important stuff off - and ensured
you have installation media for the applications on the computer you want
too (anything installed on the computer you use daily that does not come
*with* windows XP - so essentially anything other than Wordpad, Notepad,
Outlook Express, Paint, Internet Explorer 6 and some other basic
applications - do what should have been done originally when you were 'given
your computer' and install a fresh copy of the OS (Windows XP Home,
Professional, Media Center, Vista, Windows 7, UBUNTU, etc) on it for which
you have a legitimate license (a free retail license or a new OEM license.)
