Very simple problem that has baffled me.

I have two machines connected via a crossover cable.
Generated a shared folder in both. Given both 10.0.0.*
no. Go into explorer, first one sees second machine and
folder and data in that machine. Second sees first
machine wont go in. Some form of permissions issue? I
cant see where.

Any suggestions or help greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Neil

Message machine coming up with:

\\******* is not accessible. You might not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the
administrator (thats me...) of the server to find out if
you have access permissions.

The server is not configured for transactions.

A server is not being used. Do we know if the
permissions are on the machine that cant access the other
one. Or is it a permission on the otherone that is
stoping it being accessed?

Thanks for any help
Neil

If the PC is supplying a resource, its a server.
Log on to PC1 with a user account that exits on PC2

They both have the same user and administrator accounts
generated on them.

I am using a crossover cable to keep it simple (saves
using a hub), neither machine should believe or be acting
as if they are a server. Would it be worth setting one
as a server?

Could it be in user permissions or access permissions
that one may be set differently? I can't see it.

Didn't mention before, machine working ok is 2000, one
that isn't accessing the other is xp. Could it be to do
with higher security settings on the xp?

Thanks
Neil

Try turning off the built in firewall on the XP machine.

Don't confused the role of a server with the server operating system.

Thanks Rob, but thats already off. Both machines have
Symantec sw on so I've made sure thats off as well. If
logged on as administrator is there any reason wouldn't
have permission to access other machine?

Going home time here in London. Will check for any
suggestions monday morning.

Thanks, have a good weekend

Only suggestion at this point would be to try using the following syntax in
your logon

computername\administrator

where computername is the name of the PC you are trying to access.
