I just bought a custom configured computer with XP loaded.
I have 2 120 gig Maxtor hard drives and 2 dvd drives.
Jumpers set for master and slave both show up in device
manager but can only access 1 no drive letter for 2nd
maxtor drive. other letters are A: floppy C: maxtor hard
drive D: dvd-r and E: dvd-r.
How do I gain access to other hard drive and assign
letters and will this affect installation/performance of
other removable media drives or system performance.
Thanks
E

Recheck the jumper settings on your hard drives.
On my Maxtor slave drive, there is no jumper that
needs to be installed.

See: http://service.maxtor.com/rightnow/i...%20jumpers.htm

Your primary Master drive should have a jumper installed
as Master per Style A1 (first diagram). Your secondary drive (slave) should
not have any jumpers installed.

| using the last termination on that particular cable.
