2 GRAPHICS CARDS COEXIST with ABILITY to CHOOSE?

I've recently aquired a GeForce 4 Ti4200. But I enjoy the capture ability of
my AIW128 PCI. I only have one monitor using Windows98. I understand I can
make a separate hardware profile and also tell the bios to boot from either
AGP/PCI. *BUT*,
1) Do I also have to disconnect/reconnect my monitor to the other card
everytime I choose to switch cards? Or is there a way around this?
2) Then would that make it a total of 3 things to do everytime I switch??
3) What are the exact details on installing my GeForce...? Install while
AIW is there? Unhook/Re-hook monitor to which during installation? How to
make a new hardware profile?
Thanks

Yes.

Yes, use a KVM switch.

You don't have to have the AIW as the primary card, have it hooked up to a
monitor at all to capture with it, if I remember correctly. However you
won't have the incoming video on an overlay but it should still be
viewable in an editing application and thereafter.

Just have both cards in the system, it will prompt you for drivers the
first time you boot with either new card installed. From that point
forward you can just choose the primary in the BIOS before each boot. The
alternative is to leave one or the other the primary and choose which to
use in Display Properties, or use both in display properties to switch
them with a KVM.

The reason I tell everyone to avoid any kind of All-in-one card. You have a
perfectly good tuner that you have to toss because you want a new video
card.

I vote for selling the AWI128 for whatever you can get and buying a
dedication TV tuner card.

I would suggest that you simply buy another PC Monitor and have a dual head
display. You could go the KVM switch but with the dual monitor set up you’
ll have the additional display space in addition to using your TV capture
card.

a 17inch CRT monitor is a nice cheap buy now.

Kony I like your idea if it works -to have both installed with GeForce as
primary and AIW just used for capture(no monitoring). Kind of like dual
monitor setup but with only 1 monitor hooked up? So let me get this
straight...
-I presently have the AIW128 PCI as primary so can I then switch bios to AGP
primary, install the GeForce4 as primary with the AIW still there? And
without any new hardware profiles? Then have GeForce for gaming and still be
able to capture with AIW(no video monitoring until edit) This souunds like
dual monitors with 1 monitor left out, which is fine cause I have only 1
monitor. Then if I want to watch TV Tuner I presume I'd then amd only then
have to switch bios to primary, new profile, switch cable, etc. Correct??
Thanks...

It's not really an "idea", it's the standard method used for multiple
display adapters, which are supported by Windows.

The main issue is of hardware overlays, that when a card is "previewing"
incoming video, the higher performance option is to copy it direct to the
video card buffer, a hardware overlay. AFAIK only the primary video card
supports that, so if you want to watch TV as you mentioned, you may need
to change the AIW to primary card in the bios... or you may not... just
try it and see.
