My problem just starting 2 days ago.
I am getting an error upon opening up my outlook. It reads: WMS Idle:
outlook.exe - bad image The application or DLL c:\programs~\AVG........is
not a valid windows image.
The other error that I am getting is when I want to create a new email or
reply to an exsisting email. I get this message:
Microsoft Word is set to be your e-mail editor, However, Word is
unavailable, not installed, or is not the same version as Outlook. The
Outlook e-mail editor will be used instead.

The program still opens up and functions but it's these messages that worry
me.
My MS Word 2003 works fine...always has.

You had AVG installed and you uninstalled it. It didn't clean up properly
after itself. Try this: with Outlook closed, delete the file extend.dat in
the (usually hidden) Windows XP folder %UserProfile%\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook or the Windows Vista folder
%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Outlook

Are you comfortable with editing the registry?

I'm in the registry and the only file that starts with AVG is avgdx...which
is avgdiagexfile. Is this the one that needs to be deleted?

Look in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Addins,
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins, and
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins

I thought you said you knew how to modify the registry.

what I did was typed "regedit.exe" in the RUN command and from there selected
the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and look there for the "avg" or HKCU as you suggested.
Where did I get lost? If it's too complicated, just tell me and I'll just
forget about it, but if i can learn to fix it, why not? I do appreciate the
help.
