In attempting to set up a Public Folder for group email
following Sue Mosher's Jan 1999 article for
www.winnetmag.com, I've come accross a few difficulties.
Server: SBS 2003 (Exchange 2003), Clients: Outlook 2003
on WinXP Pro.
Issue one: Items in the public folder cannot be marked
as read. I initially had the "maintain per user read.."
UNchecked, so we could see if ANYONE had read/responded
to group emails, but no one can make them look "read"
The "mark as read" items are missing from the menus,
etc. Changing to have a checkbox there has made no
improvement (but I have not restarted exchange after this
configuration) Is this a limitation of the concept, a
need for a restart, an "public folder" implementation
error, or a permissions issue and what are the suggested
resolutions?
Issue two: In the shuffle of multiple attempts to get
the correct permissions on the correct directories,
versions of the custom forms were published to my
personal folder. I cannot remove them. I need to remove
them so that I view the public folder with the correct
(most current) custom forms. My attempts have failed.
How is this removal done? What permissions are required?
Issue three: Current versions of the custom forms ARE
published into the Orgainization Forms folder. Should
they be in the Public Folder instead (seems like a
neutral issue to me, but much has changed since this
article) How can I ensure that only the highest versioned
number of the form is being used. Is this automatic? If
not, how do I delete superflous forms from the
Orgainization Forms folder?
Issue four: Since I made extra fields (like BCC and
FROM) visible while editing the forms, I am unable to
hide them again. It takes a lot of screen space when
composing new email. How are these re-set to the
default "new email" presentation?
