2-Computer Home Network Crashed; CAN'T RECOVER

I am running XP SP1 on both my desktop and a notebook. I
have the desktop connected to a cable modem via a NIC
card and ethernet cable. I have the desktop connected to
a network switch via another NIC and ethernet cable. The
notebook is connected to the switch via a built-in NIC
and ethernet cable. The desktop is older and slower than
the notebook, but it does not make sense to have the
notebook connected to the cable modem.

I set up the network several months ago using the Network
Configuration Wizard. Things worked well with ICS and
file and printer sharing until today. No matter how many
times I run the Wizard on both computers, the notebook
just does not "see" the desktop or its internet
connection. The desktop sees the internet just fine, but
does not see the notebook...help!!!
