I have an older laptop with one USB port, ver 1.1.

Everytime I plug in my external hard drive or media card reader, I get
two messages that I have to click on to get rid of.

One of them is a notice that my device will faster with a 2.0 USB
port. I know I can add a card with extra ports, but at this point, I
just use a hub in my one and only USB port.

My computer has no 2.0 ports, so why does it keep giving me this
message? I can't do anything about it, and I know already. Can I
disable this stupid message? I am tired of having to click on it every
time I plug in a device.

The other thing that happens every time is that it brings up the
screen that asks me what I want to do with the files. There is a
window with some options (copy files, open files, etc, etc and take no
action). There is also a square to click if you want it to remember
the choice. I pick take no action everytime and I click the box. But
it asks me eeverytime. When I go to events, I will plug in my external
hard drive and put in new media cards several times during the day.
So, I get stuck with this stupid window multiple times. It also starts
scanning the files, and I have to cancel that window too. How can I
disable this window?

I really want it to do nothing when I put in a card. I will either
choose to copy the files, or I will go to photoshop and open what I
want to open. I do not need this window popping up.

I just had it happen again when I put in a CD. It said "autoplay". I
would like to turn that off.

Hello,

You can disable AutoPlay using Tweak UI
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx

For the USB issue, you can follow the advise given here, but it will disable
all USB error messages
