Have HP ze5000 notebook with crashed drive. HP sent me a
new drive and I desperately need my irs deductions off
the old drive. the old drive says no operating system
found loading the recovery disks will erase info. I also
have windows xp pro. the notebook i have has cd rom 3
usb plugs firewire plug and the works. I have access to
my parents desktop with 3.5 drive rather than 2.5. The
service people HP refered me to in Abilene TX want $40.00
flatout then $80.00 per hour plus any parts they have to
buy to transfer my stuff to my new hard drive. PS I have
(or had) 78% free space on my old drive. the computer
will be one yr old in October. HP sent new drive with out
hesitation but say they do not do data recovery. Tech at
service store said if it was his ge would just buy the
converter plug and do it himself!! can you help me?

Your problem is strictly related to a hard drive failure issue.
Take HP's advice for data recovery.

I assume your in the US from your email address
You can get a converter at CompUSA for $7

Just plug the drive into the desktop machine as a secondary, boot it up
normally and pull the data off

If you need more detailed info on how to do this let me know
