I heard recently that there has been a high number of 1tb USB
failing...? Has anyone seen or read anything ...?

I have not hear anything and I follow this kind of news. Maybe
you have it confised with the firmware bug in 1TB Seagates?

BTW, capitalisation is important in units. it is TB, not tb.
't' has no meaning as prefix. 'b' is bit, 'B' is byte.

Recently? There were rumors of issues with 1TB HDDs but that was something
like 2 years ago and nothing recently stating that.
