Try using compatibility mode. Start\All Programs\Accessories\Program
Compatibility Wizard.
Ideally, any such programs should be updated or replaced by current versions
compatible with XP. First, such apps can cause instability in the system.
Second, as XP is updated with patches, fixes and service packs, you may
again lose functionality and may not be able to get it back.
