1394 Networking

Guys,

I'm having issues with 1394 Networking. I've been using an Acer TravelMate
364 for almost one year without any kind of problem. 1394 networking was
working like a breeze (used it to transfer big files from another notebook).
Last week I took it to Acer because of a problem with the LCD cable. I was
told that the "Inverter Board was replaced". Since then, 1394 Network hasn't
been working: there is no 1394 Network icon in Network Connections folder;
in Device Manager, 1394 Network Adapter has an exclamation point and the
error is "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

The firewire connection seems to work properly (I tried with an external
DVD-ROM Player and an external hard drive).

Acer insists it's a software problem. I also tried to reinstall Windows XP
from scratch but the issue is not solved. Any advice?

TIA,

Andrea

Hi,

Have you installed sp1a after reinstall of XP?
If yes, boot in safe mode and login in as administrator.
Go to device manager and remove/uninstall the fireware
IEEE1394 adapter and then reboot to normal. Windows
should find the new hardware and install the drivers.
Go to device manager again to ascertain the drivers has
properly loaded and the device should work properly.

Hope it helps.

Peter

Hello Peter, thank you for your answer.

No, I didn't. I reinstalled XP just to rule out a software issue. I'm pretty
sure 1394 networking used to work with a plain XP installation. That's why
I'm quite certain it's a hardware issue. Anyway, as lots of users complain
about 1394 networking, there COULD be some software issue indeed. Moreover,
1394 interface seems to work perfectly.

I'll give it a try, anyway.
