I have recently upgraded my OS to XP Pro SP1. My Compaq
Presario 5900z has two 1394 ports (one in the front & one
in the back). The Device manager shows an IEEE 1394 Host
controller, but when I open Movie Maker, it says I have
no video device. Any thoughts?

Steve

I have same problem (Acer Travel Mate C100, one IEEE 1394
port, SONY DCR TRV740E, connected, turned on, in VCR mode)

I have as well PC with TV Tuner card with IEEE 1394 and
it works fine.

I have checked article at:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;314873
"IEEE 1394 Camcorder or Video Camera Is Not Listed in
Programs
Support for these devices comes from the Microsoft
Streaming Class driver. Because of this, you cannot use
the Cameras and Scanners tool in Control Panel to add the
device. To resolve this issue, in your software, select
Microsoft DV Camera and VCR if that option is available."

but I have no such option. Any idea what to do next?

Regards
Jacek

Check Sony support, or the user manual. The 1394 host controller must
be OHCI compliant.
