Some automobiles have a 10A fuse for the entire lighter
circuit which includes more than just the lighter in some
cases. Don't have an exact figure but would expect under
8A, might vary per specific lighter/element used.
Many auto parts stores, maybe even Wal-Mart or similar have
had generic lighter sockets in their automotive department.
They simply require a round hole, a ground to the metal body
of the socket, and a positive lead to the stud in the rear
center. If only an MP3 player or similar low current
devices were used then it could be mounted in plastic, but
otherwise a heat resistant mounting would be necessary.
