I currently have an 120 gig Western digital special edtion
hard drive installed in my Windows 2000 Professional
machine. It is not the boot disk just an extra to store
files. For the last 4 months I have been battling with
keeping this drive in order. Speradically I get the plug
and play unsafe removal of device warning for this drive!
Why does this happen? If I go to hard disk manager I see a
red x next to the drive and I can not attempt to click on
it as a stream of the unsafe removal of device warnings
appear and bog my system down. Do I have a bad drive? It
is brand new and hasnt seen any abuse that I know of. I
ran an up to date Norton scan and havent seen any hint of
a virus. Anyone out there have this problem before? Hints?
Thanks for your help,
Chris

I had a brand new one right out of the box bad. Problem was it tried to work
and I spent 8 hours trying to get it right. Just get the WD tools disk and
run the diagnostic program and record any error codes. Then go to their site
and fill out the rma. If you want it quicker you can then call them, leave
credit card number and get a new one shipped next day. Then return defective
one in the box and your credit card is not charged. Otherwise get the rma
and send yours back per directions. It took less then two weeks.
