When opening / closing or running apps I use 100%
proccesor and very little pagefile, as a result the
system slows to a halt and takes inordinate times to open
simple applications, at the same time the mouse virtually
stops.
I have a 40 gig drive (XP boot) and an 80 gig drive, I
have 768 meg DDR RAM on 1.4 gig AMD - I have SP-1
installed,

I have loaded XP on another drive (30 gig) both clean
installs with same result,
I have swapped video cards / removed all other cards e.i
sound / network / modem - I have swapped and changed IDE
cables
I have set pagefile control to windows auto and have run
pagefileconfig.vbs /query to check that it is operational
total all
min = 2meg
recommended = 1152
currently allocated = 2302
does anyone have any suggestions

IF YOU HAVE A AMD UPDATE THE DRIVER
GO IN TO CONTROL PANEL AND UPDATE THE CPU DRIVER YOU WILL
FIND THE UPDATE IN C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386

ALSO DOWNLOAD NEW UPDATED DRIVES

ALSO LOOK AT THE SYSTEM ADMIN TOOLS IN COLTROL PANEL IN
THARE YOU WILL FIND A ICON CALLED PAFORMANCE LOOK AT THE
STATS ON THAT

PRESSING
CTLR+ALT_DEL ALMOST PUTS YOURE SYSTEM IN A SAFE MODE
