I have had the same problem and it seems nobody has the
answer to solve the problem. I know two temporary ways to
fix it. One, restart system. Two, go to task manager and
end the process that is hugging all CPU usage. In my case
it was one of svchost.exe programs. I think they are
supposed to manage your running programs but there is
something wrong with XP because they make things worse.
Let us know if it works.
