I've authored a slide show in PP2000 that has several Mpeg2 slides.
It plays fine on the authoring machine and a 2nd workstation. I used the Pack n' Go feature to send it
to a client's laptop. The laptop would not play the mpeg2s but would show the still slides.

I installed this slide show (w/ mpeg2s) on my own laptop, which is virtually the same recent model Intel 2.4 ghz processor etc and it played fine!

What determines the playability of Mpeg2s?

Both laptops have Win Media Player 9. I can't see a difference.

Well, the Mplayer on the problem laptop DOES play my Mpeg2 file just fine,
meaning that MCI might not be the issue!

The tutorial you directed me to says that I might be missing Codecs but the
directions for viewing these on Win XP is incorrect! (Thanks, Microsoft for
a convoluted OS)

If Powerpoint is taking a ride on MCI and the Mplayer plays my Mpeg2s then
what is going on?

That works! I DLed the codec kit and that fixed it! Are the next versions of
Powerpoint dependent on the mplayer? I would hope not since the codecs for
it can be directed elsewhere, leaving PP to fend for its self!

Be careful of what you wish for. PowerPoint 2003 uses the MCI player or
Windows Media Player, depending on the direction of the wind. There are far
fewer problems reported with media and PowerPoint 2000 than there are with
PowerPoint 2003.
