I have recently downloaded Windows defeder beta and an error window keeps
popping up saying that windows defender was unable to complete the update...
also when I was trying to check for updates etc. for my computer on the
microsoft site, that same error kept popping up also, not allowing me to
implement the express(recommended) updates

It helps those answering your questions if you provide your operating system
and service pack information (e.g. Windows XP SP2) and your browser with
version number. Is this a home machine, or one used in an office? Any clues
in the System events log you can see? Are you on a large, managed network,
where access to AutoUpdate is restricted? Is there a WSUS server on the
network?
