Disabling Messenger Service Pop-ups

Introduction

Do those annoying 'Messenger Service' pop-ups keep interrupting your work and games on your Windows ME/2000/XP machine? This article shows you how to disable them without buying any software.

Step 1: First go to Control Panel and double click on Administrative Tools (if you can't see this icon make sure you have administrator privileges).



Step 2: Next double click on Services.








Step 3: You'll be presented with a huge list of Windows Services. Find the one labelled 'Messenger'.






Step 4: Right Click on it and select Properties.




Step 5: On the Properties dialog find Startup Type and select Disabled.



Step 6: After you've done that click Stop and then OK.
